This IDD-TRANSFORM virtual forum featured Dr. Lucille Esralew, Senior Psychologist Supervisor at the California Department of Developmental Services; Dr. Katie Frank, Occupational Therapist at the Adult Down Syndrome Center; Amy Kolb Tucker, Special Olympics Area Director and parent to 43-year-old Katy who has Down syndrome and has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s; and Marianne Iversen, Director of Aging Support at the Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area. They described the mental health challenges that adults with Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s may experience. They also provided practical tools to support the mental health of adults with Down syndrome experiencing Alzheimer’s, including resources and strategies that caregivers can use to support their own mental health as they care for a loved one with Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s.
