Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have a higher prevalence of osteoporosis and higher risk of bone fractures compared to the general population. However, current osteoporosis screening guidelines do not include adults with IDD as an at-risk population, potentially missing opportunities for education and prevention.
Join this Stanford seminar to hear about possible opportunities to address osteoporosis and the risk of fractures and falls in the IDD population. The discussion will highlight key insights from our recent community-engaged research project, where we used a design-thinking approach to uncover challenges related to bone health and co-create solutions aimed at improving outcomes for aging adults with IDD.
